Transparency, Ethics, and a Moral Compass: Is Cusat missing these three traits and is he the person to Lead Hazleton as mayor in 2024?My name is Donald Mason and I want to be your choice for Hazleton's mayor in 2024.
Since 2016 Jeff Cusat, a one-time cook at his family’s restaurant, has served the citizens of Hazleton, PA. Since that time Cusat has made many promises that appear to be to get votes and then failed to follow through with his commitments to Hazletonians. Case in point, in an interview in 2019 when seeking reelection, Cusat stated that he was going to address a concern that 51% of Hazletonians complained about on a consistent basis which was nuisance complaints, i.e. loud music. That was 2019; it’s now 2022 and Cusat has done nothing. In fact, the last time a noise resolution was passed was in 2013. If Cusat can’t fix the easiest issues that were a part of his reelection campaign, he will never fix the bigger issues. He also boasted a 44% crime rate reduction as something he did when in fact the PA Attorney General’s office designated a task force to reduce the sky rocketing crime rate in Hazleton. In short Cusat will take someone else’s credit and infer that it is his own. And lastly, let’s talk about transparency. In 2016 Cusat, without advising city council transferred pension monies into another city fund to avoid taking a loan out for the city; however, he never discussed this with his very own counterparts in city hall, whom then questioned Cusat’s transparency. Cusat has had 2 terms in office and ask yourself this; what's changed that benefits you.
Decades of Integrity - Decades of Leadership - Decades of Service, that's what I bring to Hazleton, PA.
I know the value of community. On Thanksgiving of 2008 the news reported that the Salvation Army lost over 300 toys when their storage facility was flooded. As founder of San Diego Volunteers I was able to replenish those toys and was humbled that I was able to make a difference in over 300 children's lives on Christmas day.
As I have always been blessed, I felt it was important not to forget those who were homeless and forgotten by others. Each year on Christmas night while living in San Dieho, CA,. myself, Domenick Schurck, Stuart Glaser, and a few others provided meals and clothes to those who were sleeping on the street and hungry. It was our belief that as we were fortunate throughout the year that we could sacrifice this one night for the sole purpose of letting the few know that they were not forgotten.
In February 2009, I received a phone call from a staffer from The Center of Missing and Exploited Children. A young girl named Chelsea King was abducted. While there were volunteers to search the streets, there was nobody at that moment who had experience in rough terrain search. I quickly assembeled a team of experienced in searches of this kind and we began our work; unfortyantely the outcome was devastating to all those involved. For the next few years if needed myself and members of my organization, San Diego Volunteers, assisted as needed in a variety of functions.
